Ceres Transport was founded in 1988 by Basie Geldenhuys—born out of necessity and driven by determination. Being a farmer in the Ceres Valley and after resigning from the local farmers' cooperative, Basie began packing and marketing his own fruit. However, due to strict regulations favoring rail transport, road freight was scarce and unreliable. Faced with limited trucking options, he made a bold decision to purchase his own trucks and established Ceres Transport to manage and coordinate their logistics.
What started as a small, practical solution soon grew into a thriving logistics network. Over time, strong relationships with transporters and clients were forged, and as road freight deregulation opened new opportunities, the company evolved. Ceres Transport transitioned from owning trucks to focusing entirely on freight brokerage across South Africa. Today, with experience reaching back to 1988, Ceres Transport connects farmers, wholesalers, and retailers to dependable refrigerated and non-refrigerated freight solutions across the country.
